so it’s lunchtime here, i went out to eat at this little place really close to our office. It’s not that big a restaurant, it’s not even a restaurant, it’s like a diner without walls. Anyway, so this place is pretty popular because of the affordable food, distance from offices and such, so I always end up eating with strangers.
The past two lunches I’ve had have been interesting. Yesterday I sat across an old lady. I was just looking away from her the moment I sat down ‘cause I know staring at people eating is weird and in my opinion, rude. So we’re eating and she speaks up and says, “I just had my hair done.” I looked around and realized oh, she’s talking to me. So I respond, “It looks nice on you ma’am, you look youthful.” She lights up and continues, “I know right, do something with your hair honey, don’t tie it in a bun all the time.” And I laughed, cause I was thinking the exact thing the morning I woke up, like I wanted to get mah haircut for the new year, but I wasn’t sure. After work, I went to our local salon and got my haircut, thinking ‘do I really want this or did that lady coax me into it?’. I am now very thankful for that lady, cause I love the bangs I got and I feel like a new person.ha.
So today, such was the case. Two men sat next to me, politely asking if they could share the table. So I was looking away again when the man next to me says, “That’s all you’re eating? why?”. And I look at him funny and say, “I had a heavy breakfast.” while in my head this is awkward, why do you care what I eat, I may be dieting but not really, this amount is passable, I really did have a heavy breakfast, stop judging me. He says, “Well we’re eating plenty cause we have to drive.”… I just nod. The other guy speaks up, “You look alright, If you’re dieting you don’t have to, you look just right.” and I laugh. Cause I definitely don’t hear that from anyone in my family or any dude I’ve met, it was so refreshing.
So kids, talking to strangers, sometimes fun. Just don’t if they look creepy or are looking at you funny. Sweet people like the ones I’ve met, the exemption.
